Even while playing GTA, you couldn’t change the color of your car just at the push of a button – something that can be done π—Ώπ—Άπ—΄π—΅π˜ π—»π—Όπ˜„ with a BMW iX Flow.

Currently only being able to switch between white, grey and black, it’s not ordinary paint or a backlit LED screen. Rather, it uses an 𝗲-𝗢𝗻𝗸 system made from laminated plastic films – using power only when changing colors.

The power to repaint on demand is cooler than its legal implications. For instance, a get-away criminal on an e-ink car is literally a button-press away from leaving the police clueless. Moreover, many countries require to state the color of a car upon registration.

It also remains to be seen whether the e-ink systems are as durable as traditional paints. Until they’re proven to be reasonably reliable, they cannot be expected to meet production lines anytime soon.
