Popularly known as IGC, the International Go-Kart championship is a prestigious global challenge that uses motorsport, go-kart building, to be precise, to inspire young engineering students. The competition has gone on for 8 seasons, all of them being held on the premises of Lovely Professional University, Punjab. The only exception was season 8, an entirely virtual event owing to the covid-19 pandemic. Dozens of teams full of enterprising and innovative engineering students participate in IGC, and our Team Automaestro was one of them in the virtual event of 2020.

The competition is held under the EV category and MV category.

Event Details:

IGC hosts its events sequentially to undertake the competition with a mission to the participants put their bookish knowledge to the test. It goes without saying that the first step is registration, which is done online as per the steps given on the official website of IGC.

The registration is followed by the first knock-out round, report submission. Even though this might seem like a rather tedious task to hype up the thrill of the competition, it must be mentioned that report-writing is no joke. Quite a handful of reports are to be submitted, ranging from design report, design validation plan, Design failure mode and effect analysis, Process failure mode and development analysis, proposed cost, team structure and roles, and team Gant chart. The report submission segment carries 300 points, and a team will have to score a minimum of 50% as the highest-scoring team to qualify into the first phase of the competition.

Having passed the first part of the ordeal, teams are required to head their vehicles to the third and most exciting part of the competition, to the premises of LPU. Then, in an engine-throttling competition, they will compete against all the other teams in front of 10000+ audiences live.

The physical event is grouped into static and dynamic ones. Static events include technical inspection, design presentation, cost report presentation, and business presentation. Dynamic and endurance events include brake, acceleration, skidpad, autocross, and endurance.

Due to the worldwide advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, the most exciting physical event of IGC had to be cancelled. With our visas made and bags packed to catch the flight to India, it goes without saying how much of a bummer it was when the news reached our ears. But thankfully enough, the organizers had decided to host a virtual alternative to the event.

While the gear-throttling excitement of go-kart racing was absent, our team was still content with getting to participate in the presentation events. The virtual event comprised the Engineering Design and Innovation Presentation, followed by the Business Plan and Cost Presentation. Each of these was evaluated separately, with different points.

Apart from the presentations, the team also had to submit a screen-recorded video of the CAD design, judged on its feasibility, accuracy, detailing, and other parameters.

Prizes :

The awards are divided into several categories: best design, business plan, build quality, cost report and presentation, innovation award, overall static award, and many more
