Massive changes to F1 rules have been curated with one goal in mind: 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹-𝘁𝗼-𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴. With new design regulations to be implemented from 2022, we can expect to see dramatically competitive cars from the upcoming season.

Previously, a car racing behind another would significantly lose downforce due to “dirty air” from the leading car, resulting in reduced grip and increased wearing of the tires. The new aerodynamic regulations significantly reduce this problem by featuring front and rear wings redesigned to direct the aerodynamic “wake” over any car racing behind.

The 2022 cars will also replace barge boards and make use of ground effects by featuring deep tunnels in the floor, which help to suck the car towards the track. This produces less dirty air, and also reduces the effect of dirty air on the car itself. The new cars will also be heavier by around 40 kilograms, thanks to larger 18-inch wheels and redesigned tires.

With these changes, F1 racing will be much fairer, especially for teams who normally remain at the back. With more close encounters and overtakes, an exciting season of F1 racing is scheduled to begin this March.
